BUDAPEST

Budapest is magnificent! This city is our favourite (so far). The whole place is so beautiful and breath taking. We have really enjoyed the time spent here. Budapest is made up of the twin cities of Buda and Pest, separated by the Danube River.
This morning our city tour took us to Buda Castle, Heroes' Square, Fisherman's Bastion and other landmarks. After that we walked around Pest; we visited the markets and walked along the Danube River.

On the edge of the river is a Jewish memorial. In 1945 there were very few Jews living in the ghetto area. On a cold Winter day in 1945 the militia rounded them up and took them all (men, women and children) to the river where they were forced to undress and were then shot into the icy river. The memorial consists of bronzed shoes lined up along the river, as they would have been left on that day.
